Data Visualisation: Asthma and Weather

Why does it always rain on me?
A year in the life of an asthmatic.

The weather is Britain’s favourite topic of conversation. This project asked me to select and interrogate a specific weather-based dataset. I was required to select, organise and analyse specific weather data and design a visual outcome to answer a question and provide information for a particular need. The final graphic must include a title, and a key/legend and a description of my concept.

By sourcing my data from the online resources Met Office, Accuweather.com and London Air I have used the program Sublime Text to deconstruct data into .csv files; simply structured human readable file formats for storing data. Since starting University in London, my own asthma has deteriorated; this is why I decided to focus my concept on asthma and how it can get worse due to certain weather conditions. A large amount of the globals population health is affected by asthma and I feel is something people should be aware of.

Each circular visual in my poster was created in different programs, the 2nd visual in the circle was created through Illustrator as I didnt have any specific data and only dates so this would of been difficult to work out on any other program. I looked into Nodebox, a cross-platform, node-based GUI for efficient data visualizations and generative design and the visual within the center of then circle is formed through this with data based over a yearly basis. I also decided to use Processing, an open source programming tool, to produce the outer section of my data visualisation with two sets of data.
